Day 8 - No travel without hockey for the Jibbers

Day 8 - apologies but this will be a sports' report. While in Australia the hockey is wrapping up, today was the English league's first match of the season with Zac's team the Bowdon Hockey Club preparing for a midday match. The Bowdon Boys were taking on the Wakefield Whingers. The spectators warmed up with coffee and cake as there was lots of cheering to be done. It is fair to say the Bowdon Boys were slow to start and after 10 mins found themselves 3 goals behind. It was at that point the Wakefield team turned on the whinging and quickly capitulated. By half time Bowdon had pulled back to 3-3 and were completely dominating. The second half saw a multitude of cards, speaking realms about the umpires' lack of control. Apparently the rules are the same as what we play in Australia but you would never know! Anyway the Bowdon Boys stepped up and scored 3 unanswered goals including one by No. 1 son Zac! I enjoyed the game immensely, including what I thought was an impromptu performance by the Wiggles (left, Wiggle, left!). Zac played a great 'in front' game making key intercepts leading to goals. And afterwards both teams got together for a cup of tea and massive feed in the club house. English hockey players are certainly well looked after here.
